The Volga-Tartar legion formed from Turkistan volunteers from the Volga Ural region of Russia. As with other foreign volunteer legions members of the Volga-Ural legion were allocated an identifying sleeve shield insignia that was introduced in late 1942. The Volga-Ural legions identifying sleeve shield was altered three times during its existence. This is a machine woven sleeve shield. The top field-grey horizontal bar has printed white script, "Idel-Ural". The shield is still on its original white cloth factory roll. Shortly after formation, personnel serving in the Georgian Legion were issued an identifying national sleeve shield to be worn on the upper right sleeve of the field uniform. Heer is a rare survivor. He probably achieved NCO after the fall of France when the Germans lost about 40,000. The replacements and build up of armed forces numbers started to accelerate rapidly and within a few months the Dark green collar and scalloped and pleated pockets, were dropped for faster more economical versions as the uniforms became simpler and less attractive. This is from the era of the smaller mostly German Heer. Still carries the same colorful early war insignias and is a wonderful example showing very light age and a few tiny insect bites.

It comes from a veteran who lived in St. Louis and was with the General's medals (I missed them, but are in the US), Formal KC Document (with original Hitler signature-not autopen-in my collection) and other items. General Kriebel was a personal friend of Hitler and also was on the Military Tribunal for the July 20 conspirators.
